My 2018 started off with me passed out on my friend's couch still in my clothes from the night before with my Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème in Vixen smudged across my face. I remember the long drive home and the walk of no shame, as I like to call it, to my front door feet bare shoes in my hand. This year was filled with a lot of changes, tears, heartbreak, mental breakdowns, self-discoveries, and a lot of lessons learned. This year felt like the year where I broke myself down and while it was difficult, it was necessary. I hope that in 2019 will be the year where I begin to build myself up again better and stronger than ever. I want to share a quote with all of you that my therapist sent me on my 26th birthday: "Keep your focus on how you want to feel and let the universe fill in the details." That is the kind of energy I'm taking with me in 2019.
In 2018, I started a new job. I started getting eyelash extensions regularly again by my incredible lash lady Bekah from Magnolia May Lash Bar. I sang my little heart out at karaoke and shared many drunken nights. I made the decision to go back to therapy using Talkspace. I went skinny dipping, got my first Brazillian wax, and did a lookbook with And Comfort. I started dating again. I got my first tattoo of my Mama's signature from my birth certificate during my second Stockton Instagram takeover. I turned 26. I went back on birth control. I finally got my eyes checked and started wearing contacts again. I got my own health insurance. Thanks, Obama! I had a lot of great consensual sex, did my first sponsored blog post with Eleven60, and attended my first Pride. I became a plant mom - some survived, others were not so fortunate. I started working out more, went wine tasting, and got 3rd place at a trivia night. I saw Khalid, SZA, and Kendrick Lamar in concert. I teared up when SZA sang "Normal Girl" and sang my heart out to "Broken Clocks" which incidentally is one of mine and Barack Obama's favorite songs. I spent my Saturdays at the Stockmarket, went to Santa Cruz, took a weekend trip to Windsor, and had my portrait drawn by artsandbex.
What I Blogged
I published 35 blog posts this year. While I've been blogging on and off since high school, this was the first year where I genuinely felt proud of the content that I published. I put a lot of hard work into my blog posts and tried to push myself out of my comfort zone creatively. I'll be sharing My Favorite Blog Posts of 2018 blog posts on Wednesday so stay tuned.
What I Wore
This year I discovered my love for newsboy hats, cropped tops, bodysuits, and pants. I first talked about my love for newsboy hats in my blog post Newsboy featuring this Mossimo Supply Co. Newsboy Hat from Target. I recently added another one to my growing collection of hats from the brand Wild Fable at Target. Along with hats, I also wore a lot of cropped tops this year specifically this F21+ Smocked Ballon Sleeve Crop Top which I now own in both colors and am absolutely obsessed with. When I wasn't wearing a cropped top, chances are I was wearing a bodysuit. My favorite bodysuit was this F21+ V-Wire Bodysuit which I also own in both colors and featured in my blog posts On the Fringe and Pretty in Plaid. In 2018, I found myself straying away from my usual dresses and skirts, which I still love, but opted more for pants. I couldn't stop wearing my striped culotte pants that I bought from F21+ and featured on my blog post From Summer to Fall. I also rediscovered my love for ASOS Curve Farleigh High Waist Slim Mom Jeans which I wore both in my blog posts Back to Basics and Fat Girls Shouldn't Wear Crop Tops and Other Lies.
