2019, So Far…

IMG_6881.jpg

before ringing in the new year, I sat down and thought about what I wanted to accomplish.

Then, I created a list of goals that I wanted to accomplish this year because if there’s one things I love to do it’s make lists. A habit I inherited from my mama. Instead of sharing my 2019 goals, I thought I’d share what I’ve crossed off my list thus far. I’m rather proud of how much I’ve accomplished so far in 2019 and am determined to cross off every single goal of mine on my list.

Upgrade my website

I wasn’t happy with the platform that I was using in previous years so I made the decision to switch over to Squarespace. I’m able to customize my website and my favorite part is that I’m finally able to use Shop Collective on my blog posts. Now you can shop my blog posts, the products that I share on my Instagram, and some of my favorite products with just a simple click. Click here to shop.

take better care of my health

One of my goals for this year was to take better care of my health, both mentally and physically. I’ve been going to therapy via Talkspace since October and have been actively working on my mental health. However, my physical health was seriously lacking. Now that I had health insurance thanks to Obama, I took it upon myself to schedule a doctor’s appointment to get myself tested for STDs and HIV as well as get a pap smear. This was a huge goal of mine on my list and I’m really proud of myself for doing it.

Read at least two books or more a month

I don’t often take time out of my busy schedule to read for pleasure and this year, I’ve tried to change that. I also love having access to audio books since I’m a massive fan of podcasts. I particularly love listening to autobiographies especially when the authors themselves narrate them. I’m currently in the process of listening to Becoming Michelle Obama by Michelle Obama.

Get a car

Back in December, I got into a car accident that ended up in my beloved 2009 Nissan Versa, Harvey, being totaled. At first, I was devastated when I first heard the news that my car was beyond repair and had to be totaled. However, what started out as devastating news turned out to be a blessing in disguise. With the help of my grandparents, I am now driving a 2018 Kia Soul that I absolutely love. It has a door handle and everything!

Buy new bras

I was in desperate need of some new bras and I heard about ThirdLove everywhere from social media to my favorite podcasts. So, I finally took the plunge and signed up for ThirdLove where they asked me a variety of different questions in order to find my perfect bra. I bought two bras: The 24/7 Lace Balconette Bra and The 24/7 and The 24/7 Perfect Coverage Bra. A review on these bras including all of my thoughts and opinions is coming soon!

Be more productive with my time

Between working full-time, going to school full-time, and running my own blog, I knew I had to learn how to be more productive with my time. I try to spend my weekdays working on work-related projects and doing homework so that I can spend my weekends taking photos and planning out content for my blog. I have always been a girl on the go who genuinely enjoys staying busy. However, I’d always find myself burnt out and unmotivated to do anything which led to constant procrastination. So, now in addition to being more productive with my time, I also try to find time out of each day, no matter how busy I am, to relax and unwind. Whether that’s early in the morning before I get ready for work or at the end of my day before I go to bed. Practicing these self-care has actually really helped me to be more productive with my time.

Visit My Mama

This was another big one for me. I don’t often visit the cemetery where my mama was laid to rest because I don’t feel the need to. However, it had been a very long time since I had visited her and to be honest my last visit with her didn’t end well. As busy as my life gets, I want to make more of an effort to visit her, even if it’s just to give her a bundle of brand new purple flowers and to clean off her sign. I don’t want to just visit her on holidays like Mother’s Day or on her birthday, which is December 7th, like I used to in the past. I want to visit her on random days in April, etc.
